Tacho - Hall effect sensor

Created by: Lester Caine, Last modification: 15 May 2009

Options for a hall effect sensor are currently in the todo pile. Rapid have a reasonably priced sensor and some small ceramic magnets, both of which are waiting to be run up. The sensor is a simple 5V device so just solders direct to the end of the cable. It is almost not worth doing a PCB to link the two, a heatsrink sleave and p-clip are probably all that is needed. The problem is that this is a linear sensor and so may not work well as a 'switch' - this still needs investigating.

Rapid part numbers
82-1020 A1301 sensor
06-5962 Disk Magnet 10mm x 3mm
06-5966 Disk Magnet 14mm x 3mm

Many of the other sensor options from allegro have been marked as 'Not for new designs', but A3213 looks intersting but will probably only work with one or 6 pulses per revolution. 60 may be too fast for the sensor. Datasheet {attachment id=1249}

Another area being looked at is the alternating pole magnetic strip, but that will need the flexability to select a variable number of pulses per revolution.
