H.R.Plastow Book
Thanks to Stuart Models for permission to use the content of H.R.Plastow’s book, The Building and Running of Steam Traction Engine and Roller Models, for the basis of this section of the site. Ownership of the book has now passed to Bridport Traction Engines along with the Plastow designs. They were the foundary who used to produce the castings for Plastow, and are currently expanding support for these engines ( See their section on ProjectSources ). They have had the book reprinted, and it is now available at £20 per copy and we hope to add it to the shop soon, but at present contact Bridport direct
The plan is to provide methods to carry out the production of elements of a traction engine model and details there of. Bridport now retain copyright of this material.
Since the book was written in 1971, there have been a number of changes in the rules relating to model making activities. Some of the changes are simply notes on good practice, while others are new compulsory requirements. We will try and highlight these as they arise, but the main requirements relate to construction and testing of pressure vessels.
